Overview
My role was dealing with IT issues , I was responsible for looking after the companies hardware and fixing people’s IT problems. I was heavily involved on the helpdesk and would often would communicate with anyone who came up with an issue hardware or software related. I was also responsible for keeping an eye on the overall network infrastructure and often helped troubleshoot any issues.
Skills
Yes starting Gymshark, I had never worked in a corporate business and I found it hard at first to fit in. My overall communication skills have improved a lot and I feel more confident with how I liaise with others around me. I also have learnt so much away from my degree, gaining skills with overall troubleshooting machines and learning admin skills which will help me in the near future
Responsibilities
Yes within the first month, I had the opportunity to go down to London to the store to carry out an audit on the POS devices which was an eye opener. I also took lead on certain projects which benefited the helpdesk and my fellow colleagues I worked with in terms of productivity.
Support & Guidance
The support I received throughout placement was incredible. I had a regular spotter who checked in on me monthly to give advice to me. My colleagues always helped me as well as the managers were easy to talk to if I had any issues. Rhoda and Katy were amazing helping me settle in and I could go to them about anything, as well as held some really good workshops which helped my individual skills.
Culture
The companies atmosphere is very good and the staff are all really nice and easy to talk to. There isn’t a real structure to the business which makes getting ideas across so much easier, which is why Gymshark is business that constantly evolves and gets better. I found it easy to give ideas and my managers let me ask as many questions as I wanted which grew my confidence.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed my time at Gymshark, I made friends for life and also developed my skill set so much. The tech team are incredible and will inly get better as Gymshark becomes bigger. It definitely would be nice to go back post university as I think the benefits and how people treat you make this company worth while working for.
Yes
Best bit of advice I can give is just to be confident in yourself, when I applied for my position even though I was doing a technology degree. I didn’t have a tech background. Even if you don’t have the skills just yet, they will definitely mould you into being the best version of yourself. As well as you will make new friends and the company is only getting better.
