Overview
Working with experienced building surveyors looking at all parts of the department. These included condition surveys, PMRs, looking at tenders and schedules of conditions with much more some writing up of these with assistance and going onto site around 2 times a week to do different sorts of inspections and surveys. Also project work meant checking on how the project was going and meeting contractors and clients.
Skills
I have learnt how to use lots of different software on computer better than before mainly Microsoft excel but also much more also how to work with a team and communicate with different people from all parts of the real estate industry. Also skills have improved on how to write as a building surveyor and learning better terminology when writing up reports and surveys.
Responsibilities
Yes I was I had to write up a couple of reports and look at tenders with the help of an experienced surveyor talking me through what I did wrong and right at different parts.
Support & Guidance
I received lots of guidance especially when writing reports for a surveyor who would then run through the whole part with me and show me what I did wrong and right. Also told me how they would suggest doing a survey to get an order and talk to different clients and contractors.
Culture
Company culture was amazing as everyone in the office was friendly and inclusive when doing company meets. All of the staff look out for each other which lead to a good atmosphere to work in and improve the working in office relationship as more worked in the office from at home.
Your Impressions
I really enjoyed the internship. It was good to get to know lots of the work that goes into being a building surveyor and making a great network with colleagues who will help me in my future career and if I need support in my final year of university. It was good getting a feel for the work environment and a routine which I will need in the future when I get a graduate job.
Yes
Go all out and try hard to find questions to ask and learn as much as possible in the six weeks and keep pushing for more work to gain lots of experience. Network with everyone in the office and not just your department and get to know all of the JLL principles and the office principles.
