Overview
Each day I worked on varying tasks set by a different departments within the firm. I attended short coffee meetings with different fee earners which gave me the opportunity to ask any questions I had a learn more about their day to day work. I got involved with after-work activities, such a watching a euros match at the office with other members of staff.
Skills
I developed my legal research skills through using new portals and web sources to deepen by searches. I learnt many new skills, such as how to complete various legal forms and where to efficiently find the information needed for those forms. I also developed my networking skills through chatting with as many people in the office as I could.
Business Insight
It was great to learn about how the business works, in terms of the type of work taken on and how much client experience and communication was valued. The firm did a great job of highlighting their workplace groups focusing on inclusion.
Culture
So great. Everyone in the office was extremely welcoming. The open plan office may it very easy to ask anyone a question. All members of staff were extremely approachable and were willing to help and answer any questions you had. A refreshing perspective of work/life balance was strong in embracing the flexibility staff require to work at their best.

I really enjoyed the insight and it made me feel incredibly welcomed. I felt that I found a firm where I belong and will become a valued member of staff.
Yes
Do as much research into the firm as possible to engage with their core values. Speak to people at the firm and learn from their personal experiences. Find something you feel passionate about and demonstrate how Irwin Mitchell would help you achieve that goal and how simultaneously, you could progress something valuable to the firm.
