    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Management of a fleet of prototype/ pre-series cars where I would be involved in testing and finding any faults or issues along the development of the car. I would also be responsible for the installation of logging probes and equipment to be installed in new cars furthermore when they are removed from cars out of testing. Swapping of electronic components of the cars when new versions are developed. I also had a long term project that lasted me most of the placment,

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • I got to develop many skills during my tenure, most notably the ones to grow the most would be my time management due to working on multiple tasks/ projects each with varying deadlines and levels of importance. Other skills I developed were ones such as; teamworking, data analysis and problem solving.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was entrusted with a lot of responsibility as I was entrusted to teach my success intern, additionally I was trusted to teach two apprentices who would join our department. Furthermore the ability for my work to count towards the development of the future models leaves a feeling of responsibility.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • During my tenure I did not once feel that I was unable to gain easy access to the support I would require. I also had a fortnightly meeting with my manager to talk about what I had been doing, additionally to raise any questions or queries I may have.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The atmosphere was very friendly and enjoyable, everyone was talkative. I never felt that I was unable to approach anyone. I was always asked to be involved before I even expressed interest as they saw I should take part in everything available to make the most of my time.

  • I very much enjoyed my time at BMW. I was always involved and was never left without something to do. It also allowed me an insight to the automotive industry.

  • I would recommend for people to practice their interview speeches beforehand, potentially having a friend act and the interviewer related questions. Talk about your experiences and thoughts on cars, especially those of MINI and BMW.
