  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • SEO: I learned the fundamentals of search engine optimization (SEO), using tools like Google Search Console, ScreamingFrog, and seoClarity to improve organic traffic. I supported the team in implementing SEO strategies across Samsung’s mobile and digital appliance categories, contributing to content optimization, keyword research, and performance tracking. Campaign Management: I was directly involved in product launches, coordinating SEO campaigns, and tracking their performance. This taught me how to optimize the customer journey and identify critical touchpoints to drive awareness and conversions. Affiliate Marketing: In collaboration with external partners like AWIN, I assisted in the coordination and analysis of affiliate marketing strategies to increase traffic and revenue across multiple European markets. Cross-functional Collaboration: I worked closely with a range of teams (SEO, Digital Media, Affiliates, and external agencies) to help deliver cross-channel digital marketing campaigns, refining Samsung’s approach across Europe’s 34 countries and 28 languages. Reporting & Analysis: I provided detailed performance reports and insights into SEO and affiliate campaigns, using the data to help the team make data-driven decisions to improve future campaigns.

  • During my placement at Samsung, I developed a variety of new skills while also refining existing ones. One of the key areas of growth was my understanding of SEO. I became proficient in using industry-standard tools such as Google Search Console, ScreamingFrog, and seoClarity. These tools allowed me to analyze organic search performance, identify optimization opportunities, and implement strategies that improved Samsung’s online visibility. I also enhanced my data analysis and reporting skills, providing insights into SEO and affiliate marketing campaign performance. This involved evaluating both quantitative and qualitative data sets, which helped me develop commercially sound proposals and make informed recommendations for future campaigns. Additionally, I strengthened my project management skills by working across various product launches and marketing campaigns. Managing multiple projects simultaneously required effective time management and prioritization, especially in a fast-paced environment like Samsung’s European HQ. My stakeholder management abilities also improved as I regularly collaborated with internal teams, external agencies, and partners across different regions, ensuring that campaigns were aligned and executed smoothly. Overall, the placement provided an excellent opportunity to develop a comprehensive skill set in digital marketing, combining both creative and data-driven approaches.

  • Yes, I was given a significant amount of responsibility during my placement at Samsung, which allowed me to actively contribute to key projects and campaigns. I played a central role in supporting the SEO strategy, directly assisting with product launches across Samsung's Mobile, TV, and Digital Appliance categories. This involved not only executing SEO optimizations but also tracking performance and providing detailed reports and insights that informed decision-making. In addition to SEO, I supported affiliate marketing efforts, working closely with external partners like AWIN to help optimize campaigns and drive results across multiple European markets. My role required me to manage relationships with various internal stakeholders and external agencies, ensuring that campaigns were aligned with Samsung's business objectives. I was also entrusted with handling the analysis and reporting of critical metrics for SEO and affiliate campaigns. The reports I generated were used to refine strategies and improve campaign performance, giving me the responsibility to directly influence key marketing activities. This level of responsibility, coupled with the opportunity to work on high-profile product launches and collaborate with teams across 34 countries, gave me a great sense of ownership and contributed significantly to my professional growth.

  • During my placement at Samsung, I received a great deal of support and guidance from both my direct manager and the wider digital marketing team. From the beginning, there was a clear structure in place to help me get up to speed with the responsibilities of my role. I was provided with training on key tools such as Google Search Console, seoClarity, and ScreamingFrog, and I was able to gain certifications, which built my confidence in working with these industry-standard platforms. My manager was always available for regular check-ins and provided constructive feedback on my work, ensuring I understood how my contributions aligned with broader business goals. I was also encouraged to take ownership of my projects, but the team was there to support me whenever I had questions or faced challenges. Collaboration was a key part of the culture at Samsung, and I had the opportunity to work closely with other departments, such as the affiliate and paid media teams. The open and supportive environment facilitated knowledge sharing, and I learned a great deal from my colleagues' expertise. The cross-functional nature of the role meant that I had plenty of opportunities to ask for help and collaborate with experts, particularly during complex campaign launches. The atmosphere was fast-paced and high-energy, especially during major product launches, but it was also incredibly collaborative. Despite the demanding environment, the team was very supportive, and there was a strong sense of camaraderie. Everyone was committed to working towards common business goals, and collaboration across teams—whether SEO, paid media, or affiliate marketing—was essential to achieving success. Respect for hierarchy and formality was also noticeable, as is typical in many Korean corporate environments. However, the European HQ maintained a balance, fostering an open and approachable atmosphere where team members at all levels were encouraged to contribute ideas. This combination of structured professionalism and collaborative teamwork created a positive environment where I felt both challenged and supported. The company also encouraged a work-life balance, and there were opportunities to engage in social activities, which helped to foster strong relationships within the team. Overall, the culture at Samsung was one of ambition, respect, and innovation, making it a great place to learn and grow.

I particularly enjoyed the balance between creativity and data-driven decision making in my role. Working on campaigns that had a tangible impact on Samsung’s business gave me a sense of accomplishment and purpose. The exposure to various digital marketing channels—SEO, affiliate marketing, and paid media—allowed me to expand my skill set and gave me a well-rounded experience. The team at Samsung was supportive and collaborative, which made the experience even more enjoyable. I felt like a valued member of the team, and there was a strong culture of innovation and excellence that kept me motivated.
