The Role
My placement with Hays gave me a real insight into the working business environment. I was chucked straight in the deep end from the beginning and thoroughly enjoyed my placement with the company
I was extremely valued by the colleagues I worked with. We all became close from the set go and a lot of effort was put in to make you feel like part of the Hays family.
During my placement, I was working very closely with management. Although you are left to run your own desk, constant support and direction were given to make your desk run successfully.
On a day-to-day basis you are extremely busy from the moment you walked into the office to the moment you leave. I would only suggest applying for this placement if you are fully prepared to put in the long hours and regularly work over-time, working a minimum of 47.5 hrs a week. Saying that, the more work you put in, the more you get out of it and increase the successfulness of your desk.
Although you were constantly supported by management and other members of your colleagues, you were left to run the desk. It was down to you how much you got out of your placement and your day-to-day tasks and responsibilities on how to be a successful Recruitment Consultant. The responsibility that I was given during my placement was running a Construction & Property desk covering Trades for the whole of East London and West Essex.

The Company
The office had a constant buzz about it. I worked in an office of around 45 people and there was always an atmosphere within the office.
From the first day that I started I had been set goals and targets for me to achieve over my year working for the company. These were split from smaller weekly goals to monthly targets, which I then had to work towards.
I was put forward for all possible training that the company offered. Hays are renowned for having the highest standard and quality of Recruitment Consultant training, and I undertook all aspects of this and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Financial Bonus
I hope that after graduation, I would be welcomed back for all the hard work and effort I have put in throughout my placement year with the company.
The Culture
I was the only placement student in the office and surrounding areas, however work conferences and Christmas party was a lot of fun, and a lot of money had been spent into having about 200 consultants from the East of England to enjoy a dinner and night in a Hotel and Conference Centre.
I worked in East London / Essex so the socialising was great, however the living costs were out the roof as I lived in London. Most of my wages went on food and living costs as London prices are a lot higher averagely than the rest of the country even with the higher wage I received for working down South compared to up North.
I worked in Ilford, and never went out in Ilford, however the surrounding areas of Essex and Nearby London were great.
There wasn’t much outside work activities that went on, but socialising outside with work colleagues was a popular thing for everyone to do.
