    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • The main responsibility for a transport coordinator consists in overseeing the shipping of goods. This includes monitoring deliveries based on shipment agreements, ensuring on time delivery of goods for which communication with hauliers, material planners and material controllers is essential, checking the needs of production as well as checking the availability of parts in the stocks and prioritizing the offload of certain vehicles to ensure the safety of the immediate production

  • I strengthened skills previously acquired, such as verbal and written communication, organizational and time management skills, as well as strong decision-making and problem-solving. I also develop great knowledge of different softwares, including as excel and worked on creating a dense network.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • Yes, as I surprisingly picked up the job pretty quickly and started to feel very comfortable in my daily tasks, I asked for more workload, which came with more responsibilities that I was more than happy to manage. Furthermore, my managers always mede sure that I knew I could count on their support if needed.

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • The first month I received a great training from the previous intern and throughout my placement my manager always made time to explain me the details not only things related to my job, but also the structure of dynamics of the business in general.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • I had a great experience with my team. Colleagues, managers and team leader have been welcoming, lovely and supportive since day one. The general atmosphere was normally friendly, regardless of the stress caused by the job and all managers never failed to show recognition and appreciation for the job to me and my colleagues. More in general, I have nothing negative to say about the company culture I experienced at BMW.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I absolutely enjoyed my placement year. It was a great opportunity to strengthen skills previously acquired and develop more. I challenged myself in different ways. In particular, the fact that my role was crucial for the plant, gave me the opportunity to improve even more my time management skills, managing workload and pressure and prioritizing tasks. I got a deep understating of the dynamics of transport and more in general of different logistic departments.
