Overview
As a software engineer, I design, develop and maintain software solutions for defence and security projects. The teams operate in a Agile and Scrum way, and my daily tasks included coding, debugging integration and continuous learning.
Skills
Communication has improved dramatically as to meet the sprint goals. My knowledge of the full stack has improved and I have learnt a bit of platform work in the way of AWS.
Responsibilities
I was given a lot of responsibility from the get go, understanding you will only get out of it what you put in. I led product demo's, earned certifications and upskilled on all the technologies I was working with to ensure our products for the clients met a high standard.
Support & Guidance
There was a lot of guidance in terms of my day to day tasks, as we operated within an Agile and Scrum Framework. However as it was a short summer internship of 4 months off the back of Covid, a lot of the support networks/ socials were not available to us, however in 2024 this is no longer the case and there is a strong support network available.
Culture
The company culture was really inviting, everyone had the desire to learn and continually improve as well as being extremely friendly.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the internship a lot and gave me invaluable skills going into my final year of university
Yes
Even a small seed can grow into a tree, meaning whatever opportunity you get, even if its not the desired role, give it a go and you never know where you may end up or the connections for future roles/jobs.
