Overview
The first week involved a commercial awareness workshop, learning more about the firm, meeting trainees and a responsible business day. On the second week, you were placed in a practice area and got to work within its team, being assigned various tasks as required. You were also able to get involved in training sessions that the trainees in your team were attending.
Skills
Absolutely. In the more practical sense, I developed my commercial awareness and professional writing skills. I also learned more about how a large multinational law firm functions on a day-to-day basis. I grew my confidence, learned how to best conduct myself professionally, and developed my interpersonal and presentation skills.
Business Insight
It was helpful to understand the business and the available roles as this helped inform my future planning. Learning about the (excellent) company culture helped me to determine that it would be a good fit and that I could see myself being very happy to work there in the future.
Culture
Very friendly and welcoming. I always felt like I could ask questions and ask for help, and was encouraged to attend additional training sessions to develop my knowledge and learning even further. I felt like employees at the firm are genuinely invested in helping their colleagues to succeed as much as possible. I was even invited to attend an external seminar/ networking event after working hours.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it very much.
Yes
Make sure you research the firm thoroughly and ensure it’s a good fit for you. In your application and interview, I would only discuss things that you are genuinely interested in. Don’t try and discuss something that you think they will find really impressive if you are not actually passionate about it.
