    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • Maintaining and designing monthly Power BI reports for department managers, collecting and analysing data to uncover trends and issues. Distribute notes for weekly manager meetings, ensuring everyone is aware of key events, meetings, or team shortages

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Developed strong Excel skills, learnt how to design insightful Power BI reports and use DAX. Built up great collaboration skills through the Toyota culture of exploring and interacting with other areas of the business. Time management skills are important as every week is a different intensity, with some having a lot of tasks to complete in a short deadline, so prioritising and managing your time well is key.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • I was given sole responsibility of tasks that were core to my role, as well as key involvement in other wider projects. If I found a particular job interesting I could get as stuck in and involved as we wished, taking ownership and responsibility of large tasks and individually reporting to senior management.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • Loads, there were bi-weekly/monthly catch-ups with my manager, but the frequency of these could have been increased if i was particularly struggling. In those meetings we would discuss progress, struggles, personal development, and any other concerns. These then led to certain training courses being undertaken, or the involvement of particular projects based on feedback in those meetings. There were also termly performance meetings to discuss progress in more depth.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed it, having 20 other students there as well as graduates, interns and many other young people meant there was a great social life, helped by the sports & social club that put on events and sports sessions. I enjoyed the work I did and the fact that I could make it my own. My team was great and supportive and made coming to the office something to look forward to.
