Branded Buying Review

I would sit in on teams call meetings in the morning as catch ups with the department and what would need doing on the day. I would check Trello to for any products or price approvals available to do as well as doing online checks for the company website. I was given tasks such as benchmarking which I would update on the shared PowerPoint and also do research on other company's to see what they had to offer. I did a Comp shop which involved going into competitor stores and see what type of brands and products they sold and formatted this into a PowerPoint. I would also update the fashion and home trends on the PowerPoint for the company to let them know what is trending currently.

I have learned and developed admin skills such as using excel documents and also the formulas used to calculate prices for the company. I have developed my benchmarking skills by researching on other company websites and comparing them to Matalan. I have developed my communication skills with working in an office environment. Also, I have learned new skills from using Miracle and Trello which are admin sites for the department to keep track of their progress and stay updated.

It was extremely interesting seeing what it was like inside a successful company and how everyone's roles help the flow of the business to run smoothly. It was super helpful to get such an insight in the day to day tasks people do in the department and how the team worked together with effective communication to ensure everyone understood their roles and less mistakes would be made. I found it very fascinating, especially in the teams calls with potential brands and how the department choose brands that fit best with their client base. I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Matalan and would love to see myself working their in the future. The department were all so kind and helped me if I was confused.

Super welcoming! From my first day I knew I was going to enjoy my work experiencer at Matalan. The team were so friendly and gave up their own time to teach me their roles in the company and allow me to try out different tasks. They gave me lots of positive feedback when I completed my tasks and made sure I fully understood what In was doing so I wouldn't make any mistakes. The team would always make sure I had something to do so I felt useful and make sure I was having lunch with them. At the end of my placement I was gifted flowers from the team for all my hard work which was so kind of them and deeply appreciated the thought. I would like to say thank you again to the team for all their kindness.

I thoroughly enjoyed my insight into the company. I really enjoyed myself learning about the day to day tasks the team did and looked forward to doing something new everyday. It was an incredible opportunity and gained so much from my 2 weeks there that will help me develop my career aspirations.

My advice for anyone applying to Matalan would be to make sure you have good communication skills as it will be important to stay involved within your team to make sure everyone is in touch with each other and no mistakes are made.
