Overview
I worked each day understanding auditing and how it works through online sessions and in-person events, giving a foundation to the audit process and work conducted later in the internship. I worked on two audits within teams that helped to advise and give me tasks whilst offering expertise. The tasks were based on excel where most of the work takes place but the team will also show other parts of the process giving a more rounded learning throughout the experience, with how that task fit into the bigger picture.
Skills
I was allowed to complete EY learning which was an online resource where in down times you could learn and complete badges. I completed 4 badges in Power Bi, Power Query and Excel to bolster my understanding of these areas which are used on a day-to-day basis. Working within a team also helped to develop communication skills and collaboration.
Responsibilities
Yes, there is a lot of autonomy given to the interns to complete tasks at their discretion and how they think it should best be achieved. This allows you to grow throughout the process and develop your understanding of the audit process instead of being taught the entire time. Furthermore, you are expected to complete the set trainings and hit your deadlines set by your team.
Support & Guidance
The teams are all very supportive and the student champions (SIPS) are very helpful at allowing you to settle in. Furthermore, the mentors and buddies help as a point of contact and give excellent advice for both career options and EY itself.
Culture
Everyone was very helpful from staff to partner level and very prepared to give up their time to help out. EY as a company are brilliant to work for with many social events and lots of people. The atmosphere never felt hostile or pressured and everyone was very understanding of our position as interns.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed the process and internship so much so that I have accepted a returning graduate offer for next September.
Yes
Be yourself and prepare for the application stage by looking at the company background and the role you will be applying for. Having an understanding helps a lot when in the business and will make the experience better.
