Overview
It mainly involves liaising with our Software team to test new builds in order to find bugs and issues. This is done almost daily in order to produce a working product for our client(s). In conjunction with physical testing, it is also our responsibility to keep track of metrics and requirements provided to us.
Skills
I have been able to develop my testing skills, in order to carry out a thorough test in order to find real errors which could lead to a potentially catastrophic ending. Working with a professional team has also provided me with a brilliant experience as to how the industry works. I have also learnt more about excel in the past 3 months than I have in the past 20 years.
Responsibilities
Being one of only 3 test engineers on our project (another of which is an intern too), we have both been dumped into the deep end. Between keeping track of metrics to helping running tests in order to have builds officially documented and assessed, it's kept us very busy. We have also helped out running STEM events with the Events Team which have taken us all across the southern area of England.
Support & Guidance
I feel very lucky to have had a great team lead, and other workers. They have never looked down on us for not knowing exactly what we're doing, and they've been looking out for us to give us every opportunity possible. Without them I would have learned a fraction of what I know now.
Culture
I never would have expected the entire company cohort to be so happy, smiley, and open to talk to. The office has a brilliant atmosphere, and when working off base, I haven't run into a sad worker yet.
Your Impressions
I am very happy with my job. I feel like I am helping to make an actual difference to the project. I have not been treated like an intern (In all the best ways possible) and have been given real, meaningful opportunities.
Yes
Take the initiative, I came prepared with things that I believed no one else would have brought. As cliche as it sounds, be yourself, be open, be kind. Just be happy that you've gotten as far as you have. Sell you for what you think you can give to the company. I feel like that gave me a great chance.
