Responsibilities
Definitely!! I was given sole responsibility to design aerodynamic components of the race car. I was also trusted with preparing and leading wind tunnel shifts on my own.
Support & Guidance
A lot! I had a mentor who provided close guidance through the year and was always available for questions. I also had weekly 1 to 1 sessions with my mentor and my principal who listened very carefully to my feedback and questions and always supported me with feedback and recommendations from their side and were clearly interested in improving my experience in the company.
Culture
Very supportive and open. You can notice that people feel at home at Williams and want to excel as a team. However, this is Formula 1, so there is a fast pace and natural pressure to deliver on targets and goals.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed the topic of aerodynamic develpment and the high level on which this is done in F1. The infrastructure such as CFD resources and wind tunnel that I got to use as a placement student were great and fascinating. I also enjoyed the responsibility that I got, enabling me to really contribute towards the project. It was great to be able to learn from the experience of all the friendly team members around me. However, F1 work is of course demanding and can be stressful.
Yes
