Overview
The ACCESS scheme involved a number of different insights and experiences based around learning more about commercial law and developing career skills. This included a Development week, a work experience week with SMBP, and a Business Challenge day.
Skills
I learned a plethora of new skills, such as commercial awareness and problem-solving in a legal environment, and creating a personal brand. I was also given many opportunities to hone existing skills such as communication and teamwork with my cohort and professionals.
Responsibilities
Considering the nature of the programme, an introduction to commercial law and Clifford Chance designed for sixth form students, there was not much responsibility in terms of being given work. However, I did feel responsible in the sense that it was up to me to get involved in the many opportunities and make the most of them for my personal development.
Support & Guidance
The Early Talent team were very supportive throughout the scheme, keeping me regularly updated on information and events, and always being available for queries via email.
Culture
Clifford Chance's culture was very welcoming and friendly, and I quickly felt comfortable despite this being one of my first experiences in a law firm. All the staff and lawyers were very easy to talk to, and the general atmosphere was pleasant.
Your Impressions
I greatly enjoyed being part of the ACCESS scheme, as not only did I gain a great insight into commercial law at Clifford Chance, but I was also given the chance to meet lots of likeminded students and legal experts in their fields.
Yes
Make sure to properly research the firm and show them why you are interested in Clifford Chance specifically. Any experience you have can be relevant if you can show it developed skills which you could apply to a commercial law environment.
