Overview
My role included the financial management for specialties including cardiology, Haematolgy and Onclolgy. Ensuring monthly budget meetings with budget holders to discuss run rates and variances in expenditure compared to budget. Ensuring invoices are processed and signed for payment and ensuring invoices are raised where needed. To distribute the budget reports on a monthly basis to budget holders.
Skills
Communication and commercial awareness. How to communicate in a business environment and ensuring you are communicating clearly. Understanding of how money flows through the NHS starting from the tax we pay.
Responsibilities
Yes, Supported my own specialties including Cardiology, Haematology and Oncology as departments I was responsible for looking after.

Yes
Go for it. Amazing opportunities arise at the NhS shadowing doctors and surgeons to watching surgeries. It’s more than numbers as there is a patient at the end of things.
