Overview
As part of my placement, I had the following daily duties: - Lead and facilitate the daily team catch-ups and meetings. - Provide general support on departmental topics and tasks for the Plant Steering team. - Create content and business narrative for local communications of the Logistics organization across Oxford & Swindon. Some major projects that I worked on were: 1. Lead the project to integrate new digital target management system; 2. Support the development, agreement, and rollout of the new business strategy; 3. Establish a plantwide catalogue of business visuals to support future strategy communication rollouts.
Skills
I have significantly enhanced my organisational skills by effectively managing multiple concurrent projects. I've mastered the art of prioritising tasks, adhering to deadlines, and leading projects simultaneously. Additionally, I learned how to communicate my ideas effectively using emotional intelligence. I successfully implemented a new approach to local communications, which was well received and has boosted my self-confidence. Placement routing has also taught me to effectively plan my day-to-day life and maintain a healthy work-life balance by engaging in various activities outside of work hours.
Responsibilities
My team has been incredibly supportive, recognising and encouraging my proactive approach. I've had the opportunity to lead multiple projects independently, which I thoroughly enjoyed. Additionally, my team has been receptive to my ideas, providing the necessary support to turn them into reality.
Support & Guidance
I've always felt supported and valued by my colleagues. Despite the age gap and my limited experience, I've always felt valued and treated equally among my colleagues. I've been entrusted with real projects, including those involving confidential data across various business areas. Regular feedback sessions with my manager have helped me track my progress, identify areas for improvement, and enhance my efficiency and value to the company.
Culture
I truly loved the culture of the company and highly recommend BMW Group as a fantastic place for work experience. The company fosters a positive and supportive work culture, prioritising employee well-being and work-life balance. The hybrid work format offers flexibility, allowing employees to choose between working from home or the office. Since my team was very friendly, we all preferred coming to the office but always had the choice to stay at home if needed. Additional bonus is a half-day Friday, allowing you to have an extended weekend. We've also had regular socials and team time every week to strengthen relationships and maintain a positive work environment.
Your Impressions
I thoroughly enjoyed working for BMW Group at MINI Plant Oxford. Despite the valuable professional experience that I have gained, I had the pleasure of meeting lots of wonderful people that have proved to me that work can be more than just a means to an end. When you're in the right environment, work can be enjoyable and contribute to a sense of purpose.
Yes
You don't need to be an engineering student with extensive automotive knowledge to succeed in the automotive industry. As a business student, I had limited prior knowledge of car production, but it never stopped me from excelling in my role.
