Overview
Work on tickets on team PlatOps (Platform Operations). Wrote code for frontend and backend services, picked up support tickets, updated Platform policies for supported services and maintained existing service infrastructure on aws.
Skills
DevOps methodology and tools. Scala language Learned best practices for development
Responsibilities
Lots, I had ownership for implementation and deployment of tickets I choose and the power to create my own tickets based on initiative.
Support & Guidance
Lots from team members - I was able to drop a message on slack if I got stuck or wasnt sure and I would be on call with a team member. Team members were patient with me too.
Culture
Cannot speak for company only MDTP department within HMRC, teams have lots of autonomy to define their owns ways of working to how we see best - resulting in excellent quality of life and efficient working, unlike other companies where there are coorporate mandates that slow people down. The atmosphere is relaxed as well, while there is a chain of command it was not unusuall for me to have lunch or chat at break with my manager or the even more senior Platform owners.
