Overview
On a day to day basis, I work on regulations and compliance schemes within the industry. As well as that, I look to to stimulate increased participation in the different forms of flexible technology such as Demand Side Response (DSR) and storage. I bring together industry and energy users, to work together in a co-ordinated way. A key priority is to grow participation in DSR, making it easier for industrial and commercial businesses to get involved and to realise the financial and carbon-cutting benefits.
Skills
I have learnt and developed many skills including, data analysis, networking, presenting and many more. I have also gained many technical skills through the frequent use of different software programs like Excel and PowerPoint.
Responsibilities
Yes, I am given a good level of responsibility during my placement, but it is given manageable amounts. My manager and team ensure I am not given more than I can handle, so that I don't struggle but they give me enough to gain an understanding of the business and do try to push me, however I am always able to ask for help or more time when given a task.
Support & Guidance
I am given an immense amount of support and guidance from across the business, this includes my assigned "buddy", my manager, the young careers team and also the other placement students and graduates. Everyone at NESO is very supportive and you can get guidance from almost anyone as everyone is always willing to help.
Culture
The company culture is very inclusive and nurturing and I feel lucky to be a part of a company like NESO. The atmosphere is also great, everyone is friendly and chatty, and people are always positive.
Your Impressions
I enjoy my placement to a great extent. I was very nervous when first starting my placement as I expected a very different setting to what NESO actually has. I enjoy all the different opportunities there are, even things outside the office like careers fairs, or days out for training, my entire experience is very positive and I a still looking forward to see what else there is to come.
Yes
The advice I would give to anyone applying to Neso would be to make sure they have done their research on what we do and what their role entails, they should be able to show an interest in some of our projects and show that they are enthusiastic to learn more.
