    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • During my Time at First Central, I undertook Several different projects of work, these include: BAU Report Process’s- A vital role of mine was to produce reports to provide information regarding our variables and factors within our models. Using code scripts, in SAS enterprise guide I wrote and produced code for reports. I produced Conversion Reports, to monitor how much we converted on a particular insurance factors. I worked on Project looking to monitor the availability of data within our models. And produced reports to monitor the change in data distributions between our Radar rate versions. Python Principal Component Analysis- I worked with python to produce a Bivariate plot to compare our data to the produced model of lower dimensionality. Version Control investigation & integration- I investigated and researched how to implement Version control Git, into our Sas Enterprise guide Report code scripts. So that we could track different version of our code. And I presented my findings to our team and implemented Version control into my reports. Additional work- I helped identify missing data checks, produced Guides, Procedures and Learning resources.

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • At First Central, I was provided with many responsibilities over the course of my working year. One of these include hybrid working; working 1-2 days in the office a week and the rest remote. This provided me with being responsible for a suitable modern and flexible style of working, that I couldn't take for granted. It required me to be driven, diligent and determined to complete certain deadlines set. I would say Hybrid working also developed my time management and organisational skills. I worked in small groups with other people within the team, to help coordinate projects etc. I was asked to speak and present my findings on few of the projects that I worked on.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • At the start of my professional placement year, I did find it difficult to understand the complete scope of my aims and objectives in the role and team that i was in. Much of the Training materials were very vague, so i did struggle with certain aspects of the work i was doing. Hence, I was supported by my Line Manager who definitely helped me find my footing within the roles and helped me develop my confidence in the work i was producing. One of the best and understanding people i've had the pleasure of working with.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I very much enjoyed my placement. It was a great experience to get to see a possible application or pathway one could take after studying a Maths degree. I definitely found it much more challenging then i expected. And also found the company and industry to be a lot more in depth and larger than i first thought. I struggled to get my head around certain terminology and acronyms at the start.
