Overview
I have to clean the paintings, sculptures and other artefacts on display in both museums. I also do some shifts as a volunteer visitor guide, where I have to help and assist visitors and give them some information about the museums if they ask me. I also have to be prepared for a fire emergency and help visitors evacuate the building through the emergency doors. I also have to help any visitor with a disability to reach the first and second floors of the building.
Skills
Yes, I have improved my skills as a customer assistant because I have to stay in the museums and be ready for any problem that may arise with the visitors or the place. I have also learnt about the cleaning and conservation of the artefacts on display because they are very rare and delicate objects and I have been taught how to manage and clean them properly. I also learnt a lot about Victorian artists such as Frederick Leighton and Edward Linley Sambourne.
Responsibilities
Yes, I am responsible for the safety of visitors and for the objects and artefacts on display. I am responsible for evacuating the house in the event of a fire and for helping visitors with disabilities to reach the first and second floors. I also have to be very careful when cleaning the artefacts and paintings as they are very historic and valuable.
Support & Guidance
In my training, we spend an hour getting to know every door in the museum in case we have to evacuate visitors because of an incident. I also spent two hours learning how to carefully clean the works of art on display.
Culture
The atmosphere in both houses is really good. All my colleagues are very nice and friendly and they are always there when I need guidance or support.
