    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • I have to clean the paintings, sculptures and other artefacts on display in both museums. I also do some shifts as a volunteer visitor guide, where I have to help and assist visitors and give them some information about the museums if they ask me. I also have to be prepared for a fire emergency and help visitors evacuate the building through the emergency doors. I also have to help any visitor with a disability to reach the first and second floors of the building.

    Skills

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Yes, I have improved my skills as a customer assistant because I have to stay in the museums and be ready for any problem that may arise with the visitors or the place. I have also learnt about the cleaning and conservation of the artefacts on display because they are very rare and delicate objects and I have been taught how to manage and clean them properly. I also learnt a lot about Victorian artists such as Frederick Leighton and Edward Linley Sambourne.

  • Yes, I am responsible for the safety of visitors and for the objects and artefacts on display. I am responsible for evacuating the house in the event of a fire and for helping visitors with disabilities to reach the first and second floors. I also have to be very careful when cleaning the artefacts and paintings as they are very historic and valuable.
