  • Developed my skills in Word, Litera, and research libraries. Improved my professional writing skills in the form of client advice and research notes. Networking and presentation skills were used, improving my communication skills overall, as well as my confidence. Improved sector specific knowledge in terms of the legal industry. Business Insight

  • 3. What was it like understanding all about the business and potential roles available?
  • I came in with a strong understanding of the potential roles available but considerably advanced my knowledge of the business as whole. Understanding the systems in place to manage client relations, the main priorities of the business in terms of development in terms of its future as well as the main challenges it faces in the present, and the next few years improved this area of knowledge.

    Your Impressions

  • 5. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was very enjoyable. I enjoyed the work and tasks I was given as well as the company I was in. The projects I got to participate in were extremely interesting due to the complexity of the challenges as well as often being for interesting clients. It was interesting to learn more about the profession and the firm especially, but the most interesting part was meeting the range of characters that make the firm what it is. There is a great sense of individuality here.

  • 8. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Herbert Smith Freehills
  • The firm seems to value personality and individuality so be yourself! Of course, as with most city firms, there is a focus on quality, so make sure your application reflects your professional capabilities but do not be afraid to show what makes you unique and lean into it. The most significant technical advice I have is to be sure to demonstrate your motivations for the firm specifically - show that you have done some research into the firm and what appeals to you about it. Be it a recent project or a specific practice area they perform well in, just make sure it is fleshed out and genuine.
