Overview
This massively depends on the role that you find yourself in. Unlike the first graduate placement, the next two have complete freedom in where you choose to go, this can involve technical power system studies, data analytics, stakeholder engagement and a host of different endeavors.
Skills
I have expanded my understanding of power systems and the wider energy network through applications avenues such as DigSilent Power factory and Plexos. I have also improved my Python skills alongside more generic microsoft applications like Excel and PowerBI.
Responsibilities
Each of my placements allowed me lots of flexibility to engage in my work in the capacity that suited me best, there was also plenty of trust offered to allow me the time and space to develop the projects I was responsible for. These projects were complex enough to occupy me for months at a time.
Support & Guidance
There was adequate support and guidance offered throughout the placement, but I didn't necessarily need it. No fault here.
Culture
Company culture is very good, I had no issues with the people working here, everybody embraces hybrid work and the values of the wider company.
Your Impressions
I am very pleased with my placement, and have learned a lot about the wider industry and NESOs part within.
Yes
Understand the reason for the separation with National Grid, the role of Ofgem and DESNZ and the expanding responsibilities of NESO and how this may look in the years ahead.
