The Role
I was given live research and thoroughly enjoyed witnessing lawyers responding to to rapid changes in the global business environment.
Everyone I worked with was friendly and supportive. The staff at Bakers, from support staff to Partners even make the summer clerks (interns) feel part of the team, even though I was only part of the team for a couple of weeks.
I was provided with considerable support and guidance by my supervisors. When I felt that I needed further clarification on a task I had been given, my supervisors were very open to questions.
I was not always busy on a daily basis, because sometimes it is difficult to delegate work to interns that they can effectively carry out alone. However I was given a wide variety of work, and as long as I was pro-active and asked around a department whether I could assist anyone, there was always something to do.
I was given enough responsibility to feel I was helping my supervisors and participating in worthwhile research and drafting. However I was not given any task that was beyond my capability.
I learnt the importance of time management and delegation at Bakers, and how important it is to work in a team to get things done efficiently. These are lessons that will definitely be valuable to me in every work environment.
The Company
Generally friendly
Graduate recruitment department did a fabulous job in organising after work social events, and exposure to a range of lawyers within the firm.
It seemed a considerable amount of money and time went into organising the internship.
Company Parties/Events
The firm has very high expectations of applicants, however they are also reasonable for the type of work that they require to be done. I was very happy to have received a job offer from them after my internship.
The Culture
Quite good
Pretty expensive in central london
It was reasonable
A few but not many for interns.
