Overview
My role involves talking to many people in different areas to get a better understanding of what they do and how all of their jobs tie together to make the overall picture.
Skills
A new skill I have learnt is MATLAB Simevents. It is a great tool to model any sort of process. At AWE, I have been able to develop my teamworking, communication and presentation skills, all of which are vital skills within a engineering work environment. I am very glad that I now feel more confident across these areas.
Responsibilities
Personally, I think I have been given an appropriate amount of responsibility as a placement student. I fully understand the reasoning as to why there are things which I cannot be responsible for.
Support & Guidance
I have been offered plenty of support, either from HR, my Line manager, Task manager and the wider team I am working with. It has been made clear where I can go to if I need help and support with anything.
Culture
The company culture was very welcoming and understanding. Everyone is willing to help and learn from each other. This created a very refreshing atmosphere and I felt happy to come to work every day.
Your Impressions
Being honest, this placement was not exactly what I expected. Mainly because I applied to be in manufacturing but I was put into systems engineering. However, I am still very happy to have been placed in systems because I have learnt so much about how systems engineering works, how their processes are like and I will definitely be taking the skills I have learnt here back to my university.
Yes
AWE is a very unique place and basically one of a kind in the UK. It's an amazing company where your personal development is their upmost priority. My advice would be to never stop looking for learning opportunities at AWE. Everyone is willing to help you learn.
