    Overview

  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis.
  • During my placement, I had the opportunity to collaborate closely with my team, which allowed me to enhance both my knowledge and skills. My primary focus was on preparing amortization expense and unrecorded liabilities EGA for all entities. Also I was involved in payroll testing, quality checks and completeness tests in relation to operating expenses and cost of sales. In addition, in the final week of my first engagement I got the responsibility of preparing lead schedules for a specific entity and review the manager's coaching notes.Moreover, on my last engagement, I had the responsibility to add specific EGAs in multiple entities. Throughout the experience I worked effectively with each team member, including my CD mentor, manager, senior managers and senior associated, contributing positively to their wants.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills, or developed your existing skills?
  • Throughout the placement I had the privilege of expanding my knowledge and enhancing my skills. The most valuable skill I developed was time management. Given multiple tasks simultaneously I learned to organize and prioritize each task efficiently. Additionally, I improved working effectively, efficiently and productively under a high pace and demanding environment. Moreover some tasks required client input, which helped me further refine my organisational skills. I also had the opportunity to improve my communication abilities, particularly in one to one meetings with clients, which significantly reduced my anxiety and boosted my confidence in professional interactions. Lastly, I gained a stronger understanding in using PwC software tools like Aura, Connect and I further improved my skills on Microsoft Excel in terms of shortcuts

    Responsibilities

  • 3. Were you given much responsibility during your placement / internship?
  • During my placement, I primarily worked on preparing amortisation expense and unrecorded liabilities EGAs for all entities. In the process, I had the opportunity to review the manager's coaching notes and make the necessary adjustments. Additionally, I was responsible for discussing issues related to unrecorded liabilities with clients and requesting invoices or bank statements for amount exceeding materiality thresholds. Lastly, through the last weeks of the placements I was given the responsibility to prepare lead schedules and payroll testing.

    Support & Guidance

  • 4. How much support and guidance did you receive during your placement / internship?
  • During my placement, I received continuous support, guidance and assistance from all the team members with special acknowledge to my CD Mentor. Their mentorship played an important role in helping me navigate complex tasks and further improve knowledge and skills. In addition, I was receiving help when necessary form my buddy, a fellow Flying Start student, who was always willing to offer valuable advice and practical insights whenever needed. Furthermore, I had regular support from my career coach and once a month we were having an online meeting where I had the chance to express any issues or any further clarifications that I needed. Lastly, when I had university related issues I was receiving help from my program manager.

    Culture

  • 5. What was the company culture and general atmosphere like?
  • The overall atmosphere at the company was welcoming and familiar, which made a comfortable and engaging work environment. All the team members from senior associates to managers, were helpful, caring and supportive, contributing to a collaborative and inclusive culture. Regardless of position or level of expertise, everyone was eager to assist one another with any challenges or questions, creating the sense of teamwork. In terms of company culture, PwC places a strong emphasis on upholding its ethical principles and maintaining the highest standards of professionalism. My CD Mentor ensured that I deeply understood and embraced the company's ethical guidelines.

    Your Impressions

  • 6. To what extent did you enjoy your placement / internship?
  • I truly enjoyed the privilege of attending the placement and found the experience incredibly rewarding. I was enthusiastic about learning new skills, further expanding my knowledge, and each day was a new opportunity for growth. Even though the period that I joined PwC was demanding and high-pressured, I enjoyed working overtime since I had the chance to come closer to team members and improve my skills. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of my placement, as it allowed me to build and enhance both my professional and business profile. Moreover, I appreciated the chance to meet and collaborate with a diverse group of individuals who shared their expertise, helping me deepen my understanding on various aspects.

  • The main advice I would offer is to fully embrace the experience by asking question, meeting new people and learn as much as possible from highly skilled professionals around you.Take every opportunity to absorb knowledge from those with expertise. Moreover I would recommend focusing on building professional profile by engaging with clients and observing how the team works in a fast paced and demanding environment. Furthermore, maintaining a positive attitude is crucial as it will contribute to a collaborative work culture. Approach each tasks with enthusiasm, regardless of its complexity and always aim to deliver your best work.
