Spring Intern Review

The two-day insight day was full of engaging and insightful sessions. These included interactive activities that forced my peers and I to think critically to address real life issues a business is facing. We took on a case study involving the company Brightsparks which forced us to understand the logistics of a business and the importance of efficient audit and tax strategies. My group and I then presented to a group of senior Deloitte pannelists adressing the risks faced by Brightsparks, and the strategies we propose to mitigate these. As well as this interactive activity, I gained an insight into Deloitte’s operations, culture, and career paths through a series of informative talks and Q&A's by experienced firm leaders. I have developed key skills over these two days in communication, teamwork, and problem-solving within a professional services environment through the advice recieved during talks and exposure to such an environment, which forced me to push myself out of my comfort zone and publicly speak.

I have developed my team-work skills through working with my group to generate a presentation. As well as this my communication skills have been enhanced as a result of the presentation delivered by Paul, which focused on public speaking with confidence and clarity.

I found it very insightful hearing about all the different areas within tax and audit. I am not set on my future career goals, as I am currently exploring opportunities - and this insight opportunity has helped me consolidate what I would like to do in the future. I look forward to the prospect of working within a professional environment in the financial sector!

The company culture at Deloitte was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I felt included and valued, even as a short-term intern. The atmosphere was supportive and professional, and it gave me a clear insight into what working at Deloitte would be like. It was easy to see how inclusive the culture is—people from all backgrounds felt comfortable and encouraged to share their ideas. The various networks within the firm, such as those focused on diversity and religion were especially impressive and created a real sense of community.

I really enjoyed the insight days at Deloitte. It was incredibly engaging throughout. I appreciated the opportunity to ask questions directly to professionals at different levels, which helped me deepen my understanding of various sectors and what a career at Deloitte might look like. It wasn’t just informative, but also interactive through working on a case study as a group, which made the experience even more valuable. I came away with a much clearer picture of the work they do and the kind of environment I could potentially be a part of.

The main advice I’d give to others applying to Deloitte is to spend time researching the company—especially its purpose, values, and the kind of work it does across different sectors. I did this myself, and it really helped me tailor my application and show genuine interest during the insight programme. Understanding Deloitte’s core values and how they align with your own can really set you apart and help you feel more confident when speaking to people at the firm.
