Overview
I was put onto a retail property management team, where I was assigned a mentor. My mentor then gave me tasks to complete, they began simple where I was just reading over leases or reports and taking notes, my mentor would then explain how everything worked to me. By the end of the week I got to apply all these skills and begin doing physical tasks for clients.
Skills
I have definitely developed my communication skills as this environment has forced me to work and meet different types of people. I have also learnt how to calculate service charge, complete a budget report and understand why they are used.
Business Insight
This environment has expanded my knowledge, showed me another side to the property industry that I was unaware about and I got the opportunity to learn about it in great detail as well as getting involved and contributing. Despite working in a property management team it has really showed me the connection it has to building surveying.
Culture
The company is very welcoming, I can tell my team are very close and get involved with a lot of social and leisure activities together. I can also tell that Savills look after there employers as lots of people grow within the company from the graduate scheme and end up staying for a very long time.
Your Impressions
I enjoyed it a lot, more then I thought I would. I am very happy I stepped out of my comfort zone and applied and I will continue to put my best foot forward.
Yes
I would recommend to apply if the property industry is something you are interested in, it is a great experience, has taught me a lot and opened my mind to things I would not have considered before.
