The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed my placement year with IBM due to extremely helpful and friendly team and the industrial placement community present.
I felt valued by my colleagues as they were always supportive and praised me when work I produced was good and helpful to the team.
My team were always happy to answer questions that I had and help me if I needed it. I was always comfortable to ask my manager if I needed guidance on any projects or tasks I was given.
Due to the nature of my role, I have fairly quiet and very busy times of the year. I always have ad-hoc tasks to complete however the workload varies depending on the time of year.
I was able to speak to managers of all levels including Sales Leaders and Executives. I was also able to liaise with external agencies and represent IBM.
I have developed and enhanced a variety of skills and knowledge whilst at IBM including my organisation, communication and confidence skills. I have been able to participate in voluntary online training for various areas including Project Management and Excel skills which have helped me greatly.
The Company
Lively office where everyone was friendly and chatty. Everyone said good morning to eachother even if they didn't know you.
Placement was organised well and I had 2, 4, 6 and 12 month reviews.
I was able to search their online education and invest my spare time into any training or reading I thought was necessary or would help enhance my skills. There were some educational days that were arranged by the team that employs the industrial placement students however I felt a lot of this was information and skills I already had and they could have been better

I am really eager to undertake a graduate placement with IBM and I am currently applying now
The Culture
Once a week the majority of all placement students would go out and we would celebrate each birthday there was.
As Portsmouth is a student area it was fairly cheap to go out at night or during the day.
As Portsmouth was a student area there were many clubs and bars that we could go to.
Giveback is a great way to meet new people and network as well as having a day out of the office and completing tasks such as teaching in primary schools, attending career events etc.
