The Role
I feel that around 30% of my training was not tailored to my role.
Both within the placement and strategy practice I had a very good management support throughout.
Especially first year, to include internal engagement apart from client, required often very long working hours.
First few months were hard but once started working with a client and I showed that I can meet the expectations I was given greater amount of responsibility.
The best training I got was on the actual client project. As the training which I received as part of placement wasn't entirely relevant to the job performed.
The Company
Everyone are very focused and their own projects, hence its rare that people would speak to each other. A lot of time I spent is on client site, hence not always working with the same IBM people, which makes it more difficult to establish working relationship with colleagues.
Most of the placement was organized very well e.g. management support, initial project placement, graduate communities, training. However there were parts that were less organized such as accelerated career progression. There were few people, including my self who continuously had outstanding performance and had support from their practice for further promotion. This was not seen well by the placement, which should last for 2 years. There was no structured way to support that career progression.
Very good, we had 10 days of training per year, additionally if required by your work IBM would found external training e.g. Prince2. We would get funding for books.

I got a job with them, and been placed on accelerated development path.
The Culture
Current placement students would always engage with any events for new comers. That would include either presentation on our experience within the organization or social evening outings.
Very expensive, for the salary given I had to leave slightly outside of London to be able to pay for my living.
Very good nightlife, at south bank surrounded with several great restaurants & pubs but also theaters and movie festivals.
We have several opportunities which include promoting IBM on different student events. I have joined one at the UCL, were I did my degree. Different charity activities, either teach kinds how to use PC or supporting management boards in business development.
