The Role
It was very interesting to gain some insight into the work of lawyers in two of the practice groups. I really enjoyed being in the working environment, and people were very welcoming and helpful. The work placement was very well run, and we not left without any guidance.
Whilst some of the lawyers were very busy, others gave up some of their time to show us around, and explain the nature of the work they were doing. I was given some interesting pieces of research to do, and some other types of jobs which involved scrutinising documents, preparing document lists for pre-action cases and for corporate transactions. I was given very positive and encouraging feedback, and was given ideas to improve my work where there were things that I missed.
My supervisors were very helpful and supportive. They introduced me to interesting legal issues, and discussed with the background to some of the matters they were working on. They were happy to talk about the best bits and the less than glorious aspects of their work.
I was kept very busy and benefitted from asking for work, where none was forthcoming. Consequently I was always pretty busy.
I was given quite a bit of responsibility in that I had to prepare some long lists that would be relied on by lawyers putting together documents for due diligence. I was also given the opportunity to do independent research for a lawyer in a difficult area of the law.
My experience will really help me to work out within which areas I would like to practice in the future. The experience has given me the confidence and realisation that I will be able go into the area of my choosing. I am sure I will draw on some of these experiences in the future.
The Company
The atmosphere was very open and friendly. People were happy to share their views and were most approachable.
It was extremely well timetabled, with introductions to each of the practice areas and to the LPC.
There was the scope to develop personally by asking the supervisor or trainee for advice.
Subsidised Canteen
I would be happy to receive an offer from them.
The Culture
Everyone was equally friendly, and nervous on assessment day.
The same as anywhere else in London.
There is plenty of nightlife around.
We had a drinks evening and a bowling evening with the trainees.
