    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was very interesting to gain some insight into the work of lawyers in two of the practice groups. I really enjoyed being in the working environment, and people were very welcoming and helpful. The work placement was very well run, and we not left without any guidance.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Whilst some of the lawyers were very busy, others gave up some of their time to show us around, and explain the nature of the work they were doing. I was given some interesting pieces of research to do, and some other types of jobs which involved scrutinising documents, preparing document lists for pre-action cases and for corporate transactions. I was given very positive and encouraging feedback, and was given ideas to improve my work where there were things that I missed.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My supervisors were very helpful and supportive. They introduced me to interesting legal issues, and discussed with the background to some of the matters they were working on. They were happy to talk about the best bits and the less than glorious aspects of their work.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • I was kept very busy and benefitted from asking for work, where none was forthcoming. Consequently I was always pretty busy.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given quite a bit of responsibility in that I had to prepare some long lists that would be relied on by lawyers putting together documents for due diligence. I was also given the opportunity to do independent research for a lawyer in a difficult area of the law.

    3/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • My experience will really help me to work out within which areas I would like to practice in the future. The experience has given me the confidence and realisation that I will be able go into the area of my choosing. I am sure I will draw on some of these experiences in the future.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • It was extremely well timetabled, with introductions to each of the practice areas and to the LPC.

    5/5
