The Role
Things were a little slow to start with but in the end I loved my time in GSK it provided such a rich learning environment and the work was always diverse and really interesting and highly relevant. Having had several internships before in HR it was the best job I have ever had!!! So many other activities going on within the company as well which also made for a super all round experience.
I worked in several HR teams and all made me feel welcome but I particularly loved the diversity team and the I loved the recruitment team they were a really energetic, fun and passionate team to work with they made work so much fun and always made me smile.
The programme manager was fantastic they provided guidance when I needed it but mostly I was free to structure and carry out tasks independently. The balance was really good and regular work catch ups were available to manage work flow.
I was very busy in recruitment but in a really good way as it was challenging and I was working on a range of tasks and I like to be kept busy so perfect for me! It's your placement so make sure you give it everything and it will reward you accordingly with a range of fantastic opportunities.
Lots of responsibility particularly during manager’s absence whilst they were on holiday and I was also given several international focused projects to manage independently as well as presenting externally independently to several blue chip firms - super!!
GSK has provided me with valuable skills for life: project management, relationship building, international focus and team working skills as well as a technical HR focus.
The Company
Was fantastic in the recruitment team as they were always full of energy and responded to my high levels of energy really well. This made for a really fun working day!!
Initially the placement was not set up very well as there was no clear plan of work or management for me for the year. However, once the right manager was contacted and this concern raised this was quickly resolved to give me the best placement ever!
I was given opportunities to attend professional body events and present as well as other development options in the form of e-learning modules.

Yes would very much love to go back to GSK as a graduate.
The Culture
Brentford is a little way out of London and people commute long distances to the office which sometimes made it a little tricky to have events. The placement students who house shared went out together and on special occasions the team as a whole would go out as well. When we did it was really great and really fun!
London is generally expensive so I would not say that it was cheap as chips! You could however find a few reasonably priced local places near to the office to go for a meal.
Can't really say too much as nightlife is not my thing but when we went out as a team it was really super!
Tennis club was great during the summer months but outside of work during the winter there was not so much happening.
