The Role
Greatly enjoyed the scheme. Very interesting work, approachable and supportive mentors and lots of social events, presentations and training sessions.
Everyone made a real effort to find interesting tasks for me and took the time to explain the underlying concepts and cases to me. All the work I was given was actually relevant to ongoing cases, upcoming conferences etc.
Amount of support and guidance varied wit the departments I was sitting in, but overall everyone was very supportive and made sure I didn't miss out on any interesting conference calls, meetings etc.
The workload varied from day to day. However, my supervisor gave me on ongoing research project at the beginning of my scheme that I could come back to whenever I did not have any urgent tasks to complete.
I hardly did any administrative work and only had to proofread one document during the entire two weeks. Almost all of my tasks were research-based.
I learned a great deal in both departments I was sitting in, as everyone made a real effort to explain things to me and I was taken along to many internal training events. Also we had presentations about the different practise areas every morning and participated in a client pitch exercise.
The Company
The atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly and everyone was very supportive.
It was very well-organised and ran exceedingly smoothly. Also the firm kept in constant contact with us in the run-up to the scheme and organised a welcome event as well as an intern photo book.
We had a presentation about a different practise area almost every morning and were given nurmous opportunities to network with and ask questions to trainees, associates and partners alike. I also learned a great deal while preparing for a mock-client pitch.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
I can definitely see myself working at Bakers.
The Culture
Bakers organised lots of social events and the summer clerks got along very well with each other.
pretty expensive.
reasonable.
There were lots of social events, but opportunities to get involved with the firm's sports clubs or pro bono unit would have been nice.
