The Role
The work was challenging but I felt that I was never given something that was wildly beyond my reach, so it was always satisfying when you completed it!
The office was really friendly & I felt that I could talk to pretty much anyone about any concerns I had. I really enjoyed sharing an office with a member of the team too, she was really nice & we got on well
The supervisor took a bit of a hands off approach which I was glad about- it was a case of have a go yourself and if there's any problems they were there to contact. All the edits and changes made were really useful as a guide to making the work better.
Some days there was not as much work to do but this depends on the department. If there's less work going around, the department can't delegate to you! Other days it was really busy- especially when the HR project deadlines rolled around.
I felt like I was given a lot of responsibility. If you do basic work well this will often show the team that you can do more complex things & they will give you a chance. I ended up sending things to clients that I had drafted myself and doing genuinely helpful things within the team.
The practical skills were invaluable. By going out and trying things yourself you find where your strengths and weaknesses lie. The firm encourages this too- someone will check all your work to make sure its correct but they will give you a chance to have a go by yourself first.
The Company
It is a professional firm, but the atmosphere in the team was really chatty and friendly. there was no edge in the office & I felt really welcomed.
We had loads of stuff organised for us and that was not an issue- there were some problems with the IT access throughout the 3 week scheme though.
I felt we were shown the red carpet for some things but also given an insight into the daily tasks of the firm. We had 3 days of training on using the systems and hour long talks from several department across the 3 weeks.
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Recruitment will come from within the scheme and about half the people will get a job with the firm
The Culture
The vac schemer's were out pretty much every night after work either on a grad rec event or on something organised among ourselves
It is London but in the area it's about £3.50 a pint which is about standard.
Again, it's London so it's not far from anywhere. Around the office there's a couple of pubs.
There were opportunities (sports etc), but you're probably going to be too busy to take advantage of them.
