The Role
I really enjoyed my placement at Pinsent Masons. Everyone was really friendly and made a big effort to explain what was going on to me even though they were really busy themselves.
Yes I felt valued by my colleagues. They were very busy so if you want someone to pat you on the back after every little job you do then you probably won't like it.
I was assigned a trainee buddy which was great. She assigned me work to do and went over it to give me feedback which was really useful. My supervisor was also great and took time out his busy schedule to give me some guidance.
I was fairly busy and always had work to do but this is better - if I had nothing to do it would be boring.
I was never given much responsibility but this is what I expected. I was mostly assigned things to research and report back on.
I think the skills I developed here will assist me when I become a trainee solicitor and beyond.
The Company
Everyone was really friendly and the office had a great atmosphere
The placement was not very well organised because the firm has just merged and the office had just been integrated but I think next year it won't be a problem.
The first day was an induction day where we were trained on the IT systems and information services. The firm made an effort to get to know you through the formal and informal assessments.

Company Parties/Events
All the vacation placement students will get an interview for a training contract. They recruit about 70% of their trainees through the vac scheme so there's a much better chance of getting a job than if you just apply for a training contract.
The Culture
The trainees organised 2 social events just for vac scheme students and trainees and there was also office drinks on both Fridays. The trainees were really friendly and approachable and would talk to you while you're on your lunch break.
I live at home and the social events were paid for by the company so it was not expensive! Glasgow is a big city and there are a lot of options depending on your budget.
I live in the same city so it was just as good as always.
There was a social event with the trainees on the first Tuesday and the last Thursday and there was also weekly office drinks.
