The Role
It was an enjoyable experience from beginning to the end of my placement.
My colleagues were welcoming and helpful. I could always ask questions and I had many members of staff asking me for their assistance.
The support was fantastic. My supervisor was always around to make sure that I knew what I was doing and to help if I had any questions.
It was the perfect balance as the work that I was given was enough to keep me busy, but I also had enough time to communicate with other colleagues which is very important for a placement.
A fair amount of responsibility was given to me as all of the work that I was doing contributed to work that solicitors were dealing with. I was given jobs that included research, drafting, proof reading, and client contact.
The skills that I have learnt have helped me to improve the work that I do in my current legal job.
The Company
It was a good atmosphere that mixed hard work with conversation and colleagues were very friendly which is a massive example of the culture of the firm.
The placement was set up very nicely, from application to the telephone interview. Once on the placement, I was given a welcome pack with tools that I may need for my week, plus sessions pre-arranged such as lunches, interviews and presentation times.
The training was fantastic, one day during my placement consisted of Developing Lawyer Training. The firm also gave me everything that I would need to be able to work at my best during my time with them. I had many jobs to do so my knowledge grew with every task.
Sports and Social Club
Company Parties/Events
I would love to have a job at Shoosmiths, my time there was unforgettable.
The Culture
Nearly everybody there knew one another and they were very friendly. They would have evening events, meet for lunches, sport such as a netball team.
Thames Valley is reasonable in prices compared to London.
I know the town well and the night life is good.
I believe that there is time to maintain other commitments outside of work.
