The Role
My Placement was in Cummins Indirect Purchasing, I have thouroughly enjoyed my placement and have experienced the business day to day life.
I felt very valued as I was given numerous responsibilities and thanked for the job that I did.
The team were very supportive, I was given a mentor who was extremely helpful. But numerous members of the team were willing to give guidence.
I have been given many different tasks to fufill some admin based but others were project work and areas that the department relied heavy upon. A area I really enjoyed was the administration of a rapidsource (E-sourcing tool) and the involvment of a 6 sigma sourcing event.
I was given a fair amount of responsibilities, I was responsible in creating process flows and work instructions, along with ensuring purchase orders met with finiacial policy for UK and Europe.
The tools used during the 6 Sigma project will be very beneficial in my University work and for any analysis I will need to carry out in the future. My recent understanding of policies & procedures along with strategyies used will be more than usefuil when I return to my final year of university study.
The Company
The office is a very close team to which anybody will help anybody else, this also means that along side work people are friendly and take an interest in each others personal life.
The placement was a new role in Indirect purchasing so to start with there was a breif overvoew of what was to be expected. Since carrying out the placement it has evolved into much more, which I have had a direct role in contributing to.
The company/department allowed me to experience many different aspects of the business to help me hold a greater understanding of the company. I was also permitted to visit other Cummins entites which was very beneficial to undertand whatthe plants produced and what was being purchased.

Working from home
I have been offered a part time job when I return to Univerisity, along with the outlook to start a long term career.
The Culture
At the beginning of my placement I enjoyed socialising with the HR placement student, but she then left and will not be replaced. This is a downfall in my opinion as many charity events have to be carried out and I have struggled doing this alone, I am grateful I have got on with members of my team as this may have had a negative effect if not.
I live at home, 10 minutes from the office so I have benfitted from my placemtn as I have not had to increase my living costs.
Middlesbrough town centre and Yarm are the local night life scenes, which I enjoy.
As the office is quite small only few annual events take place.
