The Role
I really enjoyed my placement and had such a valuable experience
I felt that my colleagues listened to my points of view and ideas and took them on board
I was given lots of guidance and support from my line manager but it is difficult when they also have their day job to do
I was extremely busy when I first started, but as I learned more of the job role I was able to balance my time
I felt I was given lots of responsibilities whilst on placement, I was given my own projects to take on and even amended spreadsheets that have been in use for a number of years.
I believe that the skills I have learnt will really help me in the future, I have learnt how to use accounting software and really improved my Microsoft Excel Skills
The Company
My office was very balanced, there was always time for a joke and a laugh, but at the same time you could have quiet time and put your head down
My placement was planned out from beginning to end, so I was able to see what was expected of me and by what time
I had regular training and development days, and in terms of the partnership you can go on any course you like so you really have an unlimited resource in terms of training and development
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Financial Bonus
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
The unfortunate thing about JohnLewis is you are not guaranteed a Graduate position, which is hard as you and the partnership have invested so much time an effort, although I am staying on with the partnership part time whilst I finish my last year of Uni
The Culture
As I was a corporate placement student there was no real contact with the rest of the placement students as I was based in London and all the others in Bracknell, but we got to catch up on development days.
London so very expensive... I lived at home so that was definately a benefit
It's London so night life is always good..... but expensive
Not that many activities outside of work, but I know they have lots of clubs that you can join.
