The Role
It was slow to start, mainly becasue the team where busy with a previous project, however after that things picked up nicely.
I was fully involved, for obvious reason there was some stuff that was just to advanced for me but apart from that I was fully integrated.
I was well looked after and found myself a mentor early, who really helped me throughout my year, introduced and broadened my network greatly and also got me involved in some great opportunities.
There were times between projects when things were a little quiet, however this gave me an ideal opportunity to get involved in some community giveback and represent IBM externally.
I was team lead in a few projects and was a key technical co-ordinator in the production on an internal wiki.
The Business skills that I have learnt at IBM are skills that I shall keep with me forever and am likely to need to use a great deal in the future. I don't think I could have picked a better place for learning skills for life.
The Company
The office atmosphere was OK. Being an open-office it was really that loud as there were other teams to take into consideration, however within the team we talked and had nights out which more than made up for it.
The set-up and running of the internship was organised very well. The team looked looked after us were great and threoughout the year put on different educational seminars for us to learn even more skills.
Due to the economical downturn the opportunity for travel and education was somewhat minimised. However I was skill encouraged to partake in as many online learning courses as I could fit in around my day-to-day work.
Flexi Time
Company Parties/Events
Working from home
I have been asked on the fast track scheme and am now going through the various processes involved with that. Am hoping that I get asked back as it is a great company to work for in the long-term.
The Culture
There was an absolutly excellent social scene amongst other students. We were always going out together, clubbing, cinemas, golf etc. Some of us went on holiday together and there will be a lot of people that I will be keeping in touch with.
For me it wasn't to bad as I lived locally, however form what other people have said I believe that the local area isn't that expensive in terms of rent and the cost of socialising is relatively cheap.
Loads of pubs and clubs
Several giveback opportunities were available throughout the year.
