The Role
Disney has a great environment to work in, and lots of perks. The offices are fun and everybody's friendly, although sometimes I would have liked a little more responsibility.
Within my team I felt valued, but I did feel that some people outside of my team treat Interns as Interns and not the same as a full time colleague.
I was given as much support and guidance as I needed, and never was afraid to ask for help if needed.
Work load would differ between months. At the beginning of my placement my workload was fairly small, and I found myself dragging out my smaller tasks to make sure I was busy.
I would have like more responsibility and often felt I was given tasks that no one else wanted to do.
Although I have thoroughly enjoyed the past year, I don't feel that I've learned particularly many skills to benefit my degree, however I have learned many valuable things about working in an office environment with "politics" in the work place. I would definitely do this placement again if I had the choice.
The Company
The atmosphere is relaxed and fairly lively. No one seemed to be stressed and working hours were flexible.
There were about 130 interns overall at Disney and it is encouraged to make friends when you join. With weekly one to ones too the process was done well.
At times I did feel like interns are used just for cheap labour and to do all the tasks that no one else wanted to do.
Flexi Time
Subsidised Canteen
Company Parties/Events
Staff Sales/Staff Shop
Healthcare/Dental
With lots of budget cuts there have been a few redundancies. It also seems like there's not much chance for promotion within Disney.
The Culture
With lots of interns at Disney, the social life is great. I've met some amazing people who will be friends for life.
Expensive, I spent on average £8 a day.
Good, lots of bars for after work drinks.
Not much to do outside of work, no training courses offered. There are opportunities to take part in Voluntears, which is doing charity work with Disney, usually involving great ormand Street hospital.
