The Role
I enjoyed the work I was set- I had a project from start to finish that was my own, and I did this for the entire placement, which meant I got to see something take shape and make a difference rather than just do admin for people. The office is really nice, its relaxed and doesn't feel pressured.
My boss was really good. He said from the beginning I needed to prove myself as nothing is handed to you, and when I did my work well he made sure he gave me feedback, praise and improvements. However the way the office is, most people are on client sites alot, so I never really saw my boss in person, and I sat on my own for the placement, as it was hot seating, and I didn't know the people around me.
The first day I turned up, I was left on my own at a desk with no work and no contacts. It turned out my boss was on holiday, but no one was prepared in replacement, so for the first week i had nothing to do. After that my manager has been really supportive, and wanted to help me gain experience in areas I wanted to.
I have an on going project, which means I don't have deadlines, as it is continual. It does means though that sometimes I find it monotonous working on the same piece over and over again.
Speaking to others, being given this project is a huge responisibilty, as it is actually going to be used for client work
It won't help with my studies, and as much as the work has been interesting, I'm not sure how much "skills" i've developed.
The Company
The office was relaxed, but it was very inpersonal. I never got to know anyone in the office, it was heads down and work.
It does seem very thrown in randomly into a team. Theres no set work or measurements. Its very dependent on who your boss is.
I didn't take part in any training.
Subsidised Canteen
Working from home
I recieved an offer to go for an intervew for a graduate job.
The Culture
Us interns had lunch everyday together, and we went out for drinks after work, and went out friday night together. Really good.
It's London- Its very expensive.
Canary Wharf is bar central, and everyone goes out for drinks afterwork, its really really busy. That is a down side though- no where to sit, or stand for that matter.
In 6 weeks, I didn't learn of anything.
