The Role
The staff and the comapany as a whole were very welcoming. The work was challenging but not too difficult and the support given by managers etc was always sufficient.
As soon as i picked up everything i felt like the knowledge that i had aquired was useful to other people in the business.
I was set clear objectives and although i didnt always review them myself i always new that i had them if things werent going right. I had regular 1-2-1's with my manager where she answered any questions that i had. The placement co-ordinator was also always there to talk to.
It differed depending on the time of year but i never felt overloaded with work but i always felt like i had enough to be getting on with.
I was given a huge amount of repsonsability. I was often left on my own leaving me to make really important decisions. I felt like the decisions that i made would have a big impact on the success of the product that we offered. My manager would also constantly ask for my opinions on new strategies and on pricing decisions.
The biggest thing that i learnt was to organise my workload. I had varied tasks which meant that i had to prioritise and complete different tasks by different deadlines.
The Company
Everyone is very nice and the atmosphere is generally very relaxed. There are times of the year when things are a bit more tense when poeple are busier, but across the course of the year being in work was actually quite enjoyable.
This was the first year of the placement scheme at TUI, and despite that it was very well organised. We had an initial 2 week induction and throughout the year we got given all of the support we needed. We also got to do things that we wouldnt have been able to do at other companies, like going on resort trips.
We were always asked if we wanted to go on courses, and for the most part i did all of the courses that i wanted to do. I would have liked to have done more IT based courses, or courses that taught you useful practical skills, as aposed to courses that told you how to communicate better for example, which i find less useful.

I would like to work for TUI in the future because it seems like the whole company is quite laid back. It also comes across as quite an established, yet modern company. Recuritment seems to have been restricted recently but they do have plans to operate a graduate scheme in the coming years.
The Culture
We had regular meals/drinks out, generally for peoples birthdays. We also wetn out alot in our own teams for team lucnhes and nights out. There were many social events to get involved in across the year.
I lived with my parents for the year so didnt really understand the true cost of living. I did find that Luton generally wasnt particularly expensive when going out.
The nightlife in Luton is quite poor. There arent a huge range of restaurants and the clubs/bars are sub-standard.
Poeple were always doing stuff and everyone got invited to join.
