The Role
An amazing experience, spent time travelling abroad, supporting various events etc - much better than I expected.
Was treated like a full 'real' employee by colleagues and with regard to responsibilities
My manager was good, but the best was my immediate supervisor and 'buddy' who made sure I was always on-track and didn't have any issues. Also made sure I got the support needed to do the job effectively.
Like most places, work was sometimes crazy busy and sometimes a little quiet - taken as a whole it balanced out quite well and we were given time off in lieu when working late or over weekends.
A lot of responsibility - I was essentially given goals and tasks and was free to go out and achieve them how I saw fit, also free to commandeer other people to assist etc.
This placement really set me up with the skills I needed to go on and get subsequent jobs, Not so useful for a final year project, but very useful for the real world beyond university.
The Company
Busy and hardworking, but we had regular team outings (at least quarterly) along with liberal pub lunches when possible.
Being such a large company with many interns a one size fits all approach was tried sometimes which did not work, but overall very well run and good communication to all the interns in my year.
Treated just like a permanent employee, full access to training opportunities both internal and external.

Took a while due to fluctuations in the tech sector, but got a job back with them (was offered one when I left, subject to market conditions - market conditions took a while to be good, but the offer was good once they were!)
The Culture
Regular trips away, meetings, lunches etc.... depends on the interns to make this happen.
Cheaper than big cities, but not that cheap.
Ok - about what you would expect for a large town... bristol and reading nearby for those that wanted more.
Always something going on to get involved with - *if* you had the time spare!
