The Role
The placement was very enjoyable, we had a variety of social activities arranged for us during the 4 weeks and also had a number of presentations of different aspects of the firm.
Hugely, the work I was doing was in conjunction with those I was working with so they really appreciated that I was there and able to help.
I worked in 2 departments at the firm and during each period I shared an office with a principal who gave me work and support should I need it. I could ask questions about anything and they were happy to answer.
The workload varied depending on how busy the department was. The majority of the time I had plenty of work to do and we also had various things organised for us on different days such as presentations and lunches.
That depended on how much I sought so I could do as much or as little as I liked really. Obviously I didn't have a complete understanding of everything so some of the work was research or drafting but everything was explained so I was aware how it fitted in to the matter as a whole.
In a future career the experience will be valuable. As for studies, practical law is very different from the theoretical side of studying, however, it will give me an appreciation of how law applies and is converted so clients can understand how it affects them directly.
The Company
The work was hard, but there were also drinks every friday and we had the departmental summer party whilst I was there which was great.
Everything was planned really well. We had a great variety of social events and professional presentations and workshops that gave us a real insight into the different aspects of working at the firm.
As mentioned above, we had presenations of pretty much all aspects of the firm so we had a great understanding of not only the departments but the business and strategy.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
As one of the world's leading law firms with training that is second to none it would be great to work here.
The Culture
We had various social events organised for us and got to know each other well as a group during and outside of these.
The City is a relatively expensive place but this is taken into account in the remuneration you receive.
Central London nightlife speaks for itself really.
The firm had various groups and societies that are heavily subsidised and open to anyone that wants to go along.
