The Role
They're were times when I loved my work, when I was given an interesting project. But yet many a time I didnt have any work at all and was just sitting at my desk with nothing to do, which didn't give me the feeling as if I'm using up my time properly. When you sacrifice a year from uni, you really want to feel as if it was worthwhile
Everyone was really busy and caught up in their own work
If you have a query or a question, people were willing to help
Again its relative. Some weeks were really busy and interesting, while others were really boring and spent sitting idle. So overall I think it was okay.
Only secondary and unimportant jobs were mostly given to interns
I learnt how to operate a CAD software called PRO ENGINEER which should be useful in my degree. And general engineering skills about machining processes are always good to know if you're planning on sticking with Engineering after studies. Plus I suppose the name GE on my CV will also enhance my job prospect skills in the future
The Company
There were often jokes cracking around :)
There wasn't as much organisation as I had expected from a company like GE. No one really knows who to contact for a certain thing and everyone just seems to be concerned with their own work on their own desk. My manager made commitments which he never fulfilled. I have spent 11 months in this company and yet have not managed to get a phone line for my desk.
Didn't really invest anything. The only training oppurtinies were the online automated training sessions.
Subsidised Canteen
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Healthcare from home
They have some appealing Entry level programmes for graduates
The Culture
It was okay. Once every week, we would link up for football
The leicester area is a good place to live and managed to make friends easily. Socially, its been a good year
There is no nighltife in the area of work as its a small villiage however the closest city leicester has decent places to chill
There were a few volunteering programs running
