The Role
From the get-go I was involved with the team on real client issues, the team were all extremely helpful and always happy to answer any questions I might have.
The work I was given was important and the feedback on the jobs I had done was excellent.
At no point did I feel overwhelmed with the tasks given to me, I was able to ask questions on any issue at any time with any member of the team, from trainee to partner.
Some days were quieter than others but on the whole I was always working on something. On the quieter days I would ask other departments for work which they were always happy to give me.
University sets you up with the knowledge on legal issues but working for a firm allows you to gain the practical skills essential to becoming a good lawyer. I feel I have a much greater understanding of commercial issues and commercial law as a whole, this will help me to a great extent during my final years study and for my diploma.
The Company
Very friendly, good humour, relaxed.
Excellent program, everyday was set out with clear times and instructions of where to be etc and everyone from trainees to partners were aware of what was going on.
Time was spent ensuring I understood every piece of work I was given, even down to copying files I was aware what they were for.
Company Parties/Events
I would be extremely pleased to secure a traineeship with Pinsent Masons LLP.
The Culture
Organised nights out during the first and second week, an excellent way to get to know fellow placement students and trainees on a more personal level. Partner lunch during the second week was a great way to find out from the top what was going on in the firm.
I live very near the Edinburgh office so no costs involved there, also the train tickets for commuting to glasgow and back were paid for by the firm. Social evenings were funded by a Summer Placement Fund.
