The Role
I really enjoyed this placement as I was always doing 'real' work for people all over the department rather than just for one person.
Everyone came over to me at some point in the week to say hello or to give me some work which was great as it meant I had a range of tasks concerning different issues to get involved with.
I always had support from my supervisor and also the trainees in the department if I was stuck with a problem. I never felt left on my own with work.
There was never a point when I had nothing to do but at the same time I was never overrun. The pace of work was steady and manageable.
I was given a lot of work to be responsible for but as is to be expected, I was never taking charge of anything!
The work I have done will definitely assist me in subsequent placements and on my training contract as I now have a good understanding of what work in a Corporate department involves.
The Company
Everyone in the office is very friendly but it's also easy to tell when people are busy and need to be more serious.
It was well organised. I always knew where I was supposed to be and when and also, I always knew who I was to report to if I had a problem. I was never left on my own.
Running the placement itself is a sign of how the firm invests in trainees because they want to see you working for a whole week and ensure that you're the right fit for the firm but also to ensure that this firm is right for you.
Financial Bonus
Company Parties/Events
It's difficult to predict at this stage as there have been quite a few placement students I think but the assessments are fair and I have had a good opportunity to show what I can do in my department so fingers crossed!
The Culture
We went out on a couple of evenings for drinks/a pool tournament so that was good fun and an opportunity to chat to all the trainees as there are quite a few! I got on well with the other placement students and we had a good laugh at the social events.
Leeds is not too expensive to socialise. Plus, at the social events, the firm kindly provide food and drinks!
