HR Intern Review

I enjoyed this internship quite a lot. The work was in many cases significant to the company, instilling a feeling of genuine productivity, and it was also varied, with many different types of projects being assigned to me during my two month stay. In addition, I was often times let to manage myself, which allowed me to take ownership over my level of productivity, and also allowed me to work at whatever pace I deemed necessary.

All of my colleagues have been very friendly and welcoming, and I have come to feel like a valued member of the office community after only two months of employement.

Guidance and support was always available when I asked. If I didn't ask, I was largely left to manage myself, which I quite enjoyed.

There were always things to do, but few deadlines where set. Many of my projects were open ended, and more or less up to me to determine how much time and effort I wanted to allocate towards each one. This could lead to me being more or less "busy" on any given day based on my own person drive and motivation for that day.

Beginning in the first week of my placement, I was already entrusted with managing the recruitment for several entry-level positions, including the review of online applications, independently conducting telephone interviews, and making the decision whether or not to pass applicants along to the next stage of the process. This is only one of the duites I was given during my placement.

One of the biggest things I will be able to take from this experience will be a higher confidence in my phone skills, as well as an improvement in my Excel skills, and general knowledge of how businesses operate at a corporate level.

Depending on how many people were in the office on any given day, the atmostphere could be quite open and enjoyable, however, everyone was always conscious of work needing to be done. In general I would describe the atomosphere as "focused, hardoworking and busy, punctuated with periods of amusing office banter."

Physical organization of the workplace was not bad, although at times we had one too many people for the number of desks available, forcing one of the other interns to sit in another department. Program wise, there really didn't seem to be a particular organization to the projects and tasks I was given. I was essentially given surplus and suporrtive tasks by each member of the department individually, and let to allocate my time as I saw fit. At any given time, my colleagues might not have any idea what I am working on, or what work I have been given by other members of the department.

I was given basic training needed to use company software. I was given a review at the end of my placement outlining the quality of my performance and possible areas needing development.

I have enjoyed my time with Enterprise, and given their strong culture of promoting from within, I will be pursuing a career with them when I return home.

There were no other full-time interns in my department, and certainly nobody who lived particularly close to where I was staying.

I was living in London. If you want to socialize, be prepared to pay for public transportion in addition to food and entertainment.
