The Role
A fantastic experience
Everyone extremely friendly and willing to delegate - general consensus that once you have got this far, you are good enough to be given responsibility and respect.
Extremely supportive and helpful and willing to take time out to explain and answer questions.
Almost always had something to do...if not there is so much useful info on their intranet site that there is no need to ever be doing nothing.
Good responsibility and varied work.
Learnt a lot from department work and departmental talks and workshops. Great networking opportunities.
The Company
Very busy people with lots to do some naturally some stress - but cake wednesdays and friday drinks and an incredible subsidised staff restaurant balance that out fairly well.
Very.
Loads of useful talks and workshops - know a lot more now than I did when I arrived! Principals/trainee buddies are definitely instructed to focus on your development and skills - appraisals are a useful tool to give feedback on positives and negatives of general performance.
Subsidised Canteen
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
Company Parties/Events
Excellent retention rate of vac schemers for training contracts, and trainees for post-qualification. However, many do not tend to stay beyond a couple of years post-qualification...although obviously many people do stay and enjoy it despite long hours.
The Culture
Good mix of people - generally very sociable.
Central London - not cheap - however Linklaters put on so many social events that they spend far more money than we do!
Central London, lots to do.
Up to the individual vac schemer to get involved but it is made clear that the option is there to get involved from the outset. A large number of activities put on outside of work for vac schemers (cookery course, cocktail making, treasure hunt, city tour, dinners, lunches and more - very busy)
