The Role
It didn't feel like a struggle to get out of bed at 6am every day! Genuinely enjoyed the work environment, talking to trainees and lawyers at the firm, and helping them out with whichever tasks they threw at me. All the work that I completed felt valued and worthwhile. No photocopying, drink-making, or printing involved.
All the work that I completed felt valued and worthwhile. It was explained to me how each piece of work fitted into the grand scheme of things and why it was needed by the client.
Was never afraid to ask for clarification, and when I did ask for such sufficient time was taken to explain to me what they required me to do.
There were presentations by different departments which took up most mornings, and whislt I was in my practice group I had work for a lot of the time. However, due to the particularly complex work in the department over the two weeks, sometimes there was little that I could do to assist anyone.
I was given genuine work to complete but it would all be checked and double checked by employees of the firm.
Learning how to work in an office environment is of course essential for my desired future career path, and also picking up how the employees deal with clients would hopefully assist my own dealings with clients in the future.
The Company
The overall atmosphere was very friendly yet of course there were times when the entire department got their heads down and worked in near silence.
The timetable given to us at the beginning of the placement was stuck to throughout and sufficient time was left for each task and event.
The first few days of the placement were filled with introductory work to the terminology and kind of work that the department generally completes, all of which was new to me.

Company Parties/Events
Would be very difficult to find a firm who I'd ratehr work for, at least in Birmingham.
The Culture
All of the vacation scheme students got on really well, and the social events organizied by the firm all assisted with creating the bond between the students.
I lived at home during the placement, and the prices for local food and drink were realtively cheap for a large city, especially compared to London for example.
There is a decent variety of clubs, bars and other entertainment such as comedy in the centre of Birmingham.
I personally got involved in other activites such as the corporate responsibility 'Right to Read' programme at a local school and also participated in an inter-firm 6-a-side trainee football tournament.
